OTTMAR LIEBERT Maxi Discography :: 1989-2008 :: 21CD из 28CD Genre: Acoustic Guitar / Flamenco / New Age
Country: Germany
Format: MP3, 320 kbps, CBR Lame 3.98

Liner Notes
Ottmar Liebert's most famous album gave a new genre its title, and the New Age market a new champion. Nouveau Flamenco represents a spirited new sound eminating from Santa Fe. Its magic blends the heart and soul of the Spanish gypsy guitar with a contemporary groove, a sound mastered by Ottmar Liebert. Liebert's classical guitar training is flavored by jazz and pop influences, and his music expresses what is inseparably universal and deeply personal. The ancient dramas of sorrow and joy are released and artfully transformed for the listener of today. Nouveau Flamenco is truly acoustic poetry with elegance and passion. Liner Notes
Borrasca means tempest or storm, and that's exactly what Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra have created in the new age/world music arena. This CD had been eagerly anticipated and the reception was nothing short of phenomenal. This third release augments the "power-trio" approach of Ottmar with Jon Gagan (bass + keyboards) + Dave Bryant (percussion + drums) with special horn arrangements that lend an almost mariachi flavor and strong Latin appeal. The Japanese Borrasca CD had a 16th track, an extended live version of La Rosa Negra, recorded at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 1991. The musicians were OL, Jon Gagan and Davo Bryant. An excerpt of the track is provided below. Ottmar Liebert - 1992 - Solo Para Ti Original Release: 1992 Sony Music / Epic Records

Liner Notes
Breaking new stylistic ground, the 1993 CD The Hours Between Night & Day finds nouveau flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert combining the intimacy of the nylon-string acoustic guitar with electric musicianship. Spanish flamenco, the signature sound so strongly associated with Liebert and Luna Negra, is still featured prominantly on The Hours Between Night & Day, perhaps best illuminated on the Spanish language Marvin Gaye rework "Ten Piedad De Mi". This fine CD also includes two bonus tracks and a cover of the Peter Green classic "Albatross". Liner Notes
Music. Sound. It is not with our ears we hear. We hear with a mind that organizes the information received by our ears. Reality is shaped by the software we use to analyze the data. Mind structures reality. Data has no life separate from the software that organizes it. Let the music rain on your brain and fall through the cracks. Let it take you. Non-verbal communication. Sub-consciousness to sub-consciousness. Ears to feet on dance floor. Achieve resonance. This resonance is an awesome power and it can happen live or with a DJ, it can happen in a mosh pit, in a chill room, at a rave or at a classical music concert. Music is life. Give in to it. Let it take you on a trip. Loud or soft. Let it seduce you. Play it over and over again. Turn it on and tune in. Rinse. Repeat.

This ambitious work, Ottmar Liebert's first new studio album in two and a half years was originally conceived as a single disc. In the early spring of 1995, Ottmar began recording at his own Spiral Subwave studio in Santa Fe, "and within two months, we were suddenly working on more than 30 pieces. We could record at our own pace: The engineer was staying at my house. There were no constraints - just total freedom."
For the recording of Opium, Ottmar explains, "I'm using my flamenco guitar, which was made by Eric Sahlin of Spokane, Washington, and a midi-flamenco guitar made by Keith Vizcarra of Santa Fe.
"I played two electric guitars, one of which is a Roland Stratocaster - a Japanese copy of the Fender Stratocaster which came with a Roland guitar synthesizer. I've since ripped the synth out and put in new pick ups, a new whammy bar - it's acompletely different guitar now. The other is a Gibson ES-335 (semi-hollow body) but in a pearl-white finish. I played the electric guitars through either a Mesa Boogie or Groove Tubes amp. And on some tracks I'm playing a fretless lute - although it sounds more like a Turkish oud since we took the frets off." Ottmar Liebert - 1996 - Opium 2. Liner Notes
'Leaning into the Night' features a collection of classical pieces with familiar themes and five Ottmar Liebert compositions gracefully interwoven to make a unique whole. Four of the Liebert pieces are known to his fans from other albums and one, "The Winding Road/La primavera", here receives its first recording. Castro-Neves also contributes one tune, "The Call", which he composed at Ottmar's request -- it features a recording Ottmar made in the Middle East of a muezzin's call to prayer. All these selections have been arranged for orchestra by Castro-Neves, who has created a lush, romantic setting for Ottmar's performances on the guitar. The recording debuted at #1 on Billboard's Classical Crossover chart and remained on the chart for several months thereafter. After recent excursions into classical and dance music, Liebert has returned to the simpler joys of his early '90s works with his new Innamorare/Summer Flamenco (Epic). But there are a few new exciting twists this time: a vibrant horn section and more of a focus on Carl "Cozmo" Coletti's trap-set rhythms, most notably. With their loping, gently swaying melodies punctuated by aggressive, percussive hooks, tunes like "Verano de Alegria," "Spanish Steps," and "2 the Night" are spirited, Caribbean-flavored reminders of Liebert's first radio hit, "Barcelona Nights" - only this time with bursting brass harmony lines, extra kick (including drum and percussion duets), and subtle blues-organ underpinnings. Liebert has always balanced his exuberance with touches of melancholy, but here, even reflective moments give way to optimistic glimmers. On tunes like the tribute "Ballad 4 Santana," Liebert weaves his guitar gently around Jon Gagan's sly, mournful bass line before the horns spark a fire, which in turn spurs the guitarist on an upbeat tangent. With its brisk, 6/8 rhythm and colorful improvisations off a folksy melody, "Alameda" is a mariachi-styled piece that contrasts dark and light to great effect. As a producer, Liebert likes to take chances with instrumentation to achieve particular moods. Indian tablas and Mike Middleton's muted trumpet spruce up the hypnotic atmosphere on "Desert Elysian," while Eric Schermerhorn's twangy slide guitar adds a dash of cowboy spunk to "Borboletta." The second of three Christmas albums (also see 'Poets & Angels: Music 4 the Holidays' and 'Winter Rose').
Official Webside
For Ottmar Liebert, every day seems to be Christmas lately. The guitarist's debut record Nouveau Flamenco has become the top selling guitar album of all time. He's received Grammy nominations, several of Billboard's New Age Artist of the Year awards, and his music can be heard on soundtracks and the popular live video, Wide-Eyed + Dreaming. Now the celebrated musician is sharing a bit of that personal holiday spirit through his latest Epic release, christmas + santa fe, Liebert's follow-up to last year's Innamorare/Summer Flamenco.
The title of the new album is inspired by his current residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the native of Cologne, Germany has lived since 1986. The warm, arid town in America's Southwest transforms during the winter into a charming, picturesque setting for the holiday season. Liner Notes
Engineer Gary Lyons used only what he found on the original multi-track tapes. Nothing new was added, however, the original 1/2" analog tapes were copied to 2" analog tape. With only minor changes, the running order of the limited edition release Marita: Shadows and Storms, which preceded Nouveau Flamenco by about 6 months, was duplicated.
На обратной стороне коробочки надпись гласит "The 1990-2000 Special Tenth Anniversary Edition features vibrant new mixes and re-mastering of all the original tracks, in addition to five previously unreleased songs" Ottmar Liebert - 2001 - Barcelona Nights. Barcelona Nights: The Best of Ottmar Liebert, Volume 1 is the latest release on Higher Octave Music. Back in 1990, Ottmar Liebert and Higher Octave Music came of age in a simultaneous burst of symbiotic energy. It was a perfect marriage between artist and label, roughly akin to the Beatles and Capitol Records, or John Coltrane signing with Impulse! Records. Do I exaggerate? Hardly. In all three cases, musician and record company arrived at a place of mutual recognition and need, and combined forces to create something larger than either had known previously. And in each instance, a radical new sound was born that galvanized critics and public alike. Ottmar Liebert - 2001 - Surrender 2 Love. The Best of... Liner Notes:
'Little Wing' was my last album for Epic Records.
Official Website:
Thankfully, Little Wing is not the flamenco visionary's last album, but rather the last product of his current incarnation as a musician - a pause to reflect on past influences and styles before moving forward into new musicalpursuits. Since his move to Santa Fe in 1986 and subsequent exploration of flamenco guitar, Ottmar Liebert has taken the ancient guitar style into new and unthinkable realms, fusing it with everything from Bossa Nova and dance rhythms to soothing environmental new age synthesizer sounds. Little Wing is a mosaic of such styles and influences.
Named for the Jimi Hendrix song covered within, Little Wing is a diverse collection of carefully crafted originals and beautifully interpreted classic rock songs that showcase Liebert's extensive repertoire and superb musicianship. From the ethereal and transcendental touches of the title track to the delicately administered instrumentation of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir," Liebert breathes new life into the classic rock songs that influenced him in his youth, successfully augmenting them with the wide array of distinctive flavors he has used to distinguish each of his previous twelve albums.
"I remember saying to somebody that I wanted to do 'Kashmir' with a Bossa Nova feel," explains Liebert. "It sounded a little crazy, but it sort of worked out nicely that way. Sometimes when you understate something it becomes more powerful." Ottmar Liebert - 2002 - In the Arms of Love: Lullabies 4 Children + Adults Original Release: 2002 Higher Octave (June 18, 2002)

Since 1990's Nouveau Flamenco, the multiplatinum-selling Liebert has applied his distinctive artistic vision to a variety of musical styles - from Rumba to Bossa Nova to Classical to Christmas tunes. Now, with In the Arms of Love, he is delving into the soothing world of lullabies.
"That was probably the biggest challenge: to do something that was relaxing but not boring," he reveals. "It's about creating a musical island oasis that you can retreat to. I view it as a soundscape, much like a landscape."
Review from culturecourt.com (2008):
Where are you? Gently rocking in the darkness, half-asleep, the shrouded landscape flickering past outside the window. You're on a train, perhaps traveling through the Rockies, snug in a roomette. The muted chatter of the wheels on the rails, metric, polymetric, isometric... coming and going, going and coming. It's music. Are you dreaming? Must be. The stars seem larger, their astrological patterns obviously navigating your journey. Anxiety is a thing of the past. Although you are alone, somehow you feel you are in the arms of love.... This is the ambiance of "Dreaming On The Starlight Train", just one of several such quasi-mystical tracks on Ottmar Liebert's CD, In The Arms Of Love. Yes, he actually uses a recording of a moving train as part of his instrumental. It's background, almost a whisper, a subtlety in the overall mix of the soundscape... yes, "soundscape", for that's what this CD is. The 13 tracks make up a narrative, which is like a radio play without the dialogue... or a movie without the picture. 13 years ago Nouveau Flamenco was Ottmar Liebert’s legendary, double-platinum selling debut. That groundbreaking recording became the biggest selling guitar album of all time, not simply redefining Flamenco music for the modern age but creating a whole new genre of music which sparked a 1990s world music revival. Over the years, Liebert has become one of instrumental music’s most popular and compelling live performers around the world.
Liebert’s newest release is nouveaumatic, which completes the first trilogy recorded and released for his new SSRI record label. As its predecessor Euphoria in 1995, nouveaumatic is a collection of versions done by various DJs and remixers, including Liebert himself. While Euphoria re-worked songs from the 1993 album The Hours between Night + Day, this newest release contains new versions of songs from Liebert’s two preceding CDs, In the Arms of Love and The Santa Fe Sessions. Notes Lines:
What is “The Santa Fe Sessions” not? It is not a compilation of old recordings. It is not a “Best of……” album.
What is “The Santa Fe Sessions”? The Santa Fe Sessions contain new recordings of ten compositions that first appeared in different form on albums released between 1990 and 1995 plus two new compositions. The new versions of older compositions were inspired by the songs themselves changing (improving?) over the course of performing them hundreds of times live. Most of them have grown new introductions, new appendages + new textures. I decided to capture some of this growth.
This album is out-of-print, but we still have a few copies of the CD available from our store. The recording is no longer available anywhere else. Ottmar is re-mixing these songs for a possible re-release in 2009 or 2010.

Three years ago, Higher Octave Music rang in the new millennium with the release of Nouveau Flamenco 1990-2000 Special Edition, which celebrated the ten year anniversary of Ottmar Liebert’s legendary, double-platinum selling debut. That groundbreaking recording became the biggest selling guitar album of all time, not simply redefining Flamenco music for the modern age but creating a whole new genre of music which sparked a 1990s world music revival. Over the past twelve years, Liebert has become one of instrumental music’s most popular and compelling live performers around the world.
As the ensemble dynamics have developed with the revolving members of his band Luna Negra, Liebert has naturally taken many of his best-loved tunes to incredible new places. The Santa Fe Sessions, his latest Higher Octave release via his own label SSRI (Spiral Subwave Records International,) is an extraordinary studio recording which reflects the new, expansive live in concert character of ten classic tracks—including fresh guitar, percussion and horn parts. Liebert also blazes a trail into the future with two brand new compositions, the mystical, Brazilian flavored “Sao Paulo” and a Cuban spiced “Song for Pablo.” Ottmar Liebert - 2004 - La Semana Original Release: 2004 Spiral Subwave Records International (8 June, 2004)

Although La Semana is the first Ottmar Liebert + Luna Negra album with all-new songs in five years, the multi-faceted, Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling guitarist has been his usual prolific self, writing, drawing, touring and exploring, his myriad experiences informing the 13 evocative instrumental compositions on La Semana.
Like his music, Liebert is respectful, creative and open-minded; a thoughtful artist who likes to begin albums with a concept and structure, even if it’s an untraditional one. But he's also intuitive and open enough to let the music decide what it wants to become. Thus, the more than an hours worth of songs on La Semana began with a firm direction, though ultimately the record found a different path to completion. “I usually start with a title before I start an album,” Liebert explains. “The title decides what the palette will be; what sounds I'm going to use. It's very important for me to set certain limits. Will it be a color album or black and white? To me, La Semana is a drawing. As such, musically the record is back to basics with the wooden box drum used in flamenco, the clapping, and the palmas. It's all one acoustic guitar, no electric, no lutes, no steel string guitars." Liner Notes:
The three of three Christmas albums (also see 'Poets & Angels: Music 4 the Holidays' and 'Christmas & Santa Fe').
Ottmar breathes new life into holiday favorites with sensitive, even haunting, arrangements of O Little Town of Bethlehem and O Holy Night. The CD also includes fresh interpretations of classical music, including Faure's Pavane and Les Roses D'Isphahan and Tchaikovsky's Le Cafe from The Nutcracker. But perhaps the greatest delight are the six new songs written by Liebert especially for "Winter Rose," including Westcoast, The Longest Night, Kora/River of Stars, and A Sweet Persimmon. Each captures the essence of the season. The result is an album that is both familiar and inventive, heartwarming and evocative.

Santa Fe, New Mexico- Ottmar Liebert is back in town after a month in Italy, checking out the sites, including Dante's tomb in Ravenna. The most famous image associated with the Tuscan poet is the celestial rose, the white flower of the Empyrean, a heavenly vibration of pure white light beyond Time and Space. Could Dante's rose be the "Winter Rose" of Ottmar Liebert’s new CD? Some tracks certainly have a cosmic feel, a sense of starry space and inner clarity, a REM dream rhythm that's both classical and contempo. But isn't the red poinsettia considered the "Christmas" rose? Yes... and this vibe also fits, as this is a double-character album. Liner Notes:
Each of these ten instrumentals draws a picture, and each picture tells a story. It's music as a smell that triggers unexpected memories. India, 1978... Granada, 1992... each track has a strong atmosphere of time and place, like the journal of an itinerant poet or painter. Tracks range from over 5 minutes to almost 12 minutes. Each piece shifts and evolves, sometimes going through several tempo and rhythm changes, "The River" features Tangos, Rumba and 6/8 rhythms, sometimes building from a haunting solo-guitar performance to the full drive of the band, as in "Silence: No More Longing".
